About this book

After more than seventy years, the letters Private James Grabill wrote to his wife, Bette, have finally surfaced through the efforts of his daughter, award-winning author Carole Sarkan. The letters, written with the pen that was Grabill's most treasured wartime friend, reveal the thoughts and emotions of a soldier committed to helping defeat fascism and Hitler's tyranny. They express his deep love for his wife, along with the fear, uncertainty, and frustration he faced as he entered military service and prepared to fight in a foreign land. Through his honesty and creative spirit, Private Jim's letters offer a moving glimpse into the heart, mind, and spirit of a member of America's Greatest Generation.
