About this book
Autobiographical Book “Mothers of Boys Survival Guide” Offers a Humorous, Warm and Honest Look at Raising Kids in a Complex and Challenging Society Suzy Shaw, Annapolis business owner, entrepreneur, podcast host and mother of two would argue that being a mother is one of the hardest jobs in the world. And, she just may be correct. Her new book, Mother of Boys Survival Guide: Funny Adventures and Tested Advice on Raising Happy, Independent Boys, offers a glance into her own personal trials and tribulations of raising two sons in the 1990s and provides sensible insights, practical advice and parenting tips. Each chapter is chock full of motherly adventures and is infused with Ms. Shaw’s wonderful and keen sense of humor. The full color book is doused with whimsical illustration, created by Beth Fisher, and is purposely written in “bite-size” chapters for the busy mom who may only have a short time to read but who might glean a nugget of information or advice from it (or who may simply crack up). “I was inspired to write this book because I’m a storyteller by trade and a mom by choice. My hope was that by sharing my journey of raising Gen Z boys, it would spark an idea on how to better navigate parenthood or maybe just provide a good laugh. Equally, I wanted women to be kinder to themselves and know that others were having similar experiences,” said author Suzy Shaw. She added,” This book is also meant to be a resource and guide for mothers-to-be, stay-at-home mothers, working mothers and even grandmothers!” The book is written in chronological order in and takes you along a journey with Ms. Shaw’s family who include sons, “Exuberance” and “Ernest” and husband “Hon” as they navigate sleepless nights with infants, school, dating, adulthood and becoming me (Titled “The Remarkable Transformation”), leaving Suzy and “Hon” as empty nesters. There are sidebar notes and “Tips” and “Sister Sense” advice, taken from discussions Ms. Shaw has had with her nine sisters-in-law over many years and her experience as a big sister herself.
