A Pickle for the Knowing Ones: Plain Truth in a Homespun Dress

About this book

A Pickle for the Knowing Ones by Timothy Dexter is an eccentric and humorous book that offers a glimpse into the mind of one of America's most unconventional historical figures. Written in 1802 without regard for spelling, grammar, or punctuation, the book is a mix of personal anecdotes, philosophical musings, and complaints about society and his critics. Dexter, a self-proclaimed genius and wildly successful businessman despite his unorthodox methods, famously included an addendum of punctuation marks at the end of the book for readers to "pepper and salt" as they pleased. This quirky work remains a testament to Dexter's larger-than-life personality and a curious artifact of early American literature.
